Mrs Jillard is holding three small Union Jack flags in her hand and wearing a Widow's Badge. Mrs Jillard is the widow of Able Seaman Alfred Jillard, a DEMS Gunner (Defensively Equipped Merchant Ship) serving on the Shaw Savill liner SS Ceramic when she was sunk in the North Atlantic on 6 December 1942 by the German submarine U-515.
