Yass, NSW. c. 1915. The Kangaroos recruiting march stopped in front of the Mechanics Institute. Starting from Wagga Wagga in December 1915 with 88 men, the group had grown to 230 by the time they had walked the 350 miles to Sydney. The street is lined with men, women and children, holding flags and banners. A banner is attached to the front of the Mechanics' Institute which reads 'God save the King'. A band is facing the marchers. (Donor Yass Historical Society)
