Description

A Bell Iroquois UH-1H helicopter gunship of 9 Squadron RAAF. It is parked on steel reinforcing plates laid on an uneven surface. A 7.62 mm M-21 minigun fitted with an ammunition belt is also visible. The unit crest adorns the right door-side. This RAAF squadron had its origins as a naval support flight in the early development of the Royal Australian Navy (RAN). That association resumed for a brief period during the Vietnam War when eight RAN Fleet Air Arm pilots were augmented with the squadron from February 1968 to May 1969.
