Studio portrait of Lieutenant (Lt) Colin James Aiston. A compositor of Norwood, SA, prior to enlistment, Lt Aiston embarked with the rank of Sergeant with the 18th Battery, 6th Field Artillery Brigade from Melbourne on HMAT Persic on 22 November 1915. Later transferring to the 16th Battery he was promoted to Lieutenant. Subsequently gassed he was evacuated to England. Following his recovery he re-joined his unit and was wounded in the right hip and thigh at Menin Road. He was evacuated to the 7th Stationary Hospital on 22 September 1917, aged 23, he succumbed to his wounds and was buried in the Boulogne Eastern Cemetery, France.
