Outdoors portrait of Non Commissioned Officers of the 54th Battalion, Australian Imperial Force, before the battalion embarked for France on the 9 February 1917. Identified are brothers 1973 Corporal Leslie Henry Robinson (back row, fifth from right) and 1972 Sergeant Locksley Stuart Fisher Robinson (seated, middle row, far left) both of Minore via Dubbo, NSW. Corporal Leslie Robinson was killed in action at Polygon Wood on the 26 September 1917. According to his Red Cross Wounded and Missing file, he was killed by a shell which landed amongst a group of men from the 54th Battalion. He was buried with five others near the Polygon Wood Butte, however the cross marking the grave was later destroyed, and his remains were never found. Note the British policeman in the middle row, fourth from the right.
