Informal portrait of 1260 Warrant Officer (WO) Roy Rowe of Newstead, Victoria, in front of a tent and what appears to be a chapel. A cabinetmaker with service in the Citizen's Military Forces (CMF), Rowe enlisted as a Sergeant on 10 September 1914. He embarked with the 2nd Australian Stationary Hospital unit aboard HMAT Kyarra (A55) on 14 December 1914 and was transferred to the 15th Stationary Hospital unit on 2 August 1915. Rowe was promoted several times during his service, first to Staff Sergeant on 17 November 1916 and then to WO on 22 January 1917. On 2 August 1917 WO Rowe transferred to the 14th Australian General Hospital and returned to Australia on 15 November 1918. He received the Meritorious Service Medal on 29 November 1919.
