Group portrait of members of the 52nd Battalion. Identified back row, second from left is 3402 Private (Pte) William John Thornton, Popanyinning, WA. Second row, third from left is 3401 Corporal Thomas Wilkinson James Telfer, West Leederville, WA. Front row, second from left is 3370 Pte John Frederick Graham, Bayswater WA; third from left is 3400 Sergeant John Alexander Spence DCM MM, Fremantle, WA; and second from right is 3404 Lance Corporal Alfred James Wells, Bayswater, WA. The 52nd Battalion was largely made up of men transferred from the 12th Battalion hence the cancelled 12th Battalion colour patch worn by this group. (See also P10550.014, P10550.023 and P10550.029)
