Original grave cross of 1919 Sergeant (Sgt) Harry Ellis, 18th Battalion. A tram conductor from Cumberland, England, Sgt Ellis (real name Ells) embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Runic (A54) on 9 August 1915 as a Private. He was promoted to Sergeant on 18 September 1916. Sgt Ells died of wounds on 11 August 1918. He was 33 years of age.
