Gunner Frank Garth was born in Dover, England and educated at Eglington Road School, Woolwich, Kent. He came to Australia when he was 13 years old and joined the Australian Imperial Force on 19 June 1915. Garth embarked on the HMAT Wandilla from Fremantle, Western Australia on 25 June 1915. He was wounded in action at Gallipoli on 8 August 1915. After recovering from his wounds in Egypt he returned to service with the 24th Field Artillery Brigade. He was killed in action on 10 December 1916 in the Flers Sector, France at the age of 18 years 4 months. Frank Garth is commemorated at the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial in France.
