Description
Private Joseph William Watt (1457, 1st Battalion) was born in Waikaia, New Zealand, and moved to Australia at the age of 16 years 6 months. He enlisted at Liverpool, NSW, in October 1914, listing his occupation as sailor. Joseph was killed in action on Gallipoli on 17 May 1915 and is commemorated on the Lone Pine Memorial, Gallipoli Peninsula, Turkey. His father wrote that he was 17 years 10 months of age.
