Description
A group of unidentified soldiers of 21st Reinforcements, 5th Infantry Battalion, kneeling and standing in a group on the wharf prior to the departure of troopship HMAT Nestor (A71) from Melbourne on 2 October 1916. Identified front row, far left is R58 Sergeant (Sgt) Rupert Middleton, sign writer of South Melbourne, Vic; far right, kneeling with his kitbag in front of him is 6534 Private (Pte) Reginald Vernald Matthews, labourer of North Williamstown, Vic.
