Two unidentified nurses prior to embarkation on the transport HMAT Wiltshire (A18). Early on nurses had to supply their own clothing and were told to "buy something grey", which accounts for the variation in their clothing colours and styles. The nurses pictured are wearing cloaks with over-capes. The hats they are wearing are unofficial as they should have been wearing bonnets, (see PB0345), but the hats later became official in 1916.
