Harrison, George Frederick, (Private, b.1895 - d.1964)
Journal written by Private Harrison shortly after his return to Australia from World War One. The journal starts in July 1915 with the enlistment of Harrison and continues until his journey home at the end of the war. It provides an accurate and detailed history of the 51st Battalion from its inception. It provides details on training in Egypt, the separating of 1st Australian Division to become the 1st and 4th Division, all the battles and action that the Battalion was involved in, and Harrison's job as a runner for Battalion Headquarters. The journal also contains hand drawn maps showing the positions of battle lines. The journal is a history of the Battalion rather than a personal history. Harrison neglects to mention in the journal that he was married on the 11th November 1918 while on leave in England and travelled home with his wife rather than with the Battalion.
