Morshead, Sir Leslie James (Lieutenant General, b.1889 - d.1959)
Collection of personal papers, official correspondence, operational records, administrative papers, reports and addresses documenting Sir Leslie Morshead's career in the First and Second Word Wars. Included are files relating to First World War operations at Messines and Ypres with the 33rd Battalion, Morshead's appointment as commander of the 9th Division by General Sir Thomas Blamey in 1940, congratulatory messages on Morshead's various appointments and awards, and messages exchanged between Morshead and General Sir Bernard Montgomery after the relief of Tobruk in 1941. Correspondents include Prime Minister John Curtin, Robert Menzies, Lieutenant General Sir Sydney Rowell, Lieutenant General Sir Bernard Freyberg, General Blamey, General Montgomery, and the Duke of Gloucester.
