Harston, Alfred Linacre MM (Corporal, b.? - d.1918)
Field message book of Corporal Harston of Australian Provost Corps, 5 Australian Division. Contains notes on various provost matters, including missing men, lost and stolen property, a report on the murder of an Australian soldier.and a report on the accidental death of Sapper John Clifford McKenzie (7062; 2 Australian Tunnelling Company). The book's last entry was made the day before Harston was killed at Daours. Includes other papers regarding Harston's death, and award of Military Medal, Cemetery Register, Machine Gun Class certificate, and a photograph from Egypt. Also includes a German soldier's letter from 1917 (Schutze Wilhelm Neumann), and an apparently unrelated copy of a September 1914 letter from Sir John French to Lord Kitchener regarding granting of medals.
