Humphery, Robert Claud Vivian (Lieutenant Colonel, b.1895 - d.1944)
Papers of Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Robert Claud Vivian Humphrey covering his army career over 1915-1944. He first joined 3rd Battalion in the First World War and served in France, later transferring to the Royal Australian Corps of Signals (from 1934) and the Merchant Navy (from June 1944), before being lost in action on 16 July 1944. His Signals Corps posts included the Signal Training Depots (Greta and Tamworth), 2nd Signal Training Battalion (AWAS) and the Army School of Signals (Casula). The collection comprises (i) officers' school lecture notes, particularly concerning musketry and rifle fire (1916) (ii) small sketchbook with battle, camp and French rural scenes and captions in English and French (1918) (iii) 'A Section Wireless Diagram', 7th Australian Division (iv) promotion certificates, official records and news clippings regarding Lt Col Humphrey's signals career (1934-42) (v) programs, invitations and other souvenirs, (vi) notebook of lectures given by Major J.E. Lee at Sydney's Victoria Barracks in 1937.
