Description

Collection relating to Cecil Molle (Bill) Feez who served as a Lieutenant with 3rd Field Artillery Brigade during the First World War before transferring to the Australian Flying Corps. Feez also served as a Squadron Leader in the RAAF during the Second World War. Collection consists of: a letter written by Feez on the eve of his departure for France in February 1918 intended to be read by his parents in the event of his death, expressing his gratitude to them and religious sentiments; a printed letter from George V; a copy of the February-April 1917 issue of 'The Osteralia', the journal of the troopship RMS Osterley, on which Feez travelled; his WW1 Pilot's Flying Log Book; a graduation certificate dated 10 December 1917; a letter written to Feez in 1916 from a friend; and a photo of Feez with two others at a flying training base dated 1917. Also included in the collection from the WW2 period are: two pages of Japanese script annotated "Picked up when Japs landed at Milne Bay about end Nov 1942"; and a RAAF pass for Feez dated 1942. Feez was shot down over German lines near Arras in March 1918 and became a prisoner of war interred at the Landshutt POW camp from which he attempted to escape . In relation to this event the collection also contains a hand written account of his activities from the time he was shot down till his arrival in Landshutt POW camp; and a German map of Bavaria.
