Original messages and letters dated August-September 1945 from Lieutenant William (Bill) A. Chaffey, a member of Semut IV (Z Special Force), at Sebauh (Borneo) to Lieutenant Ron Baker at Tatau concerning preparations for the surrender of the Japanese garrison at Bintulu to Australian forces and its occupation by them. They focus on how the move into the town was to be made and on communications. Includes a proclamation by Chaffey in Malay and English to the people of the Bintulu District concerning command, movement and law and order in the area.
