Etherton, Creal Albert (Private, b.1891 - d.1968)
Description
Long letter of No 2182 Private Creal Albert Etherton to a friend dated 28 December 1919 describing his war service with the Machine Gun Section of the 16th Battalion between his enlistment in May 1916 and his return to Australia in February 1919. It outlines all the major battles in which he fought, from his first front line experience in actions around Albert ('Nett's Camp') in January 1917 to the battles of Bullecourt (April), Messines and Hill 60 near Ypres (June-August) and, in early 1918, back to the Somme theatre and the fighting around Albert and Villers-Bretonneux (April-May), where he was wounded and evacuated to England.
