Jermyn, Frederick David (Captain Surgeon, b.1865 - d.1948)
Collection relating to the South African War (Boer War) service of Captain Surgeon Frederick David Jermyn. Collection consists of photocopied extracts from the hand written memoirs of Jermyn, describing his experiences as a medical officer to New South Wales, Western Australian and South Australian forces in the South African War, including treating the Duke of Norfolk in the field. Includes a black and white studio portrait of Jermyn shortly before leaving for South Africa (1899); photocopies of two pieces of correspondence with the Duke (1901); and two photographs of a silver ink stand inscribed with a message of appreciation from the Duke of Norfolk.
Jermyn later served as a major in the Australian Army Medical Corp during the First World War. Suffering illness, he was invalided to Australia in late 1916 and his appointment terminated in early 1916.
