Description
Commission documents, service papers, operational reports covering Brigadier L E S Barker's First World War service on the Western Front, Second World War command duties (2/4 Field Regiment) in North Africa and New Guinea and post 1945 career. Of note is a letter of appreciation from General Birdwood to Lieutenant Barker in connection with latter's award of the Military Cross for gallantry near Bullecourt on 28 September 1918. Second World War material includes details of the artillery defence of Port Moresby. Also includes maps, assorted correspondence, two undated photographs of Barker in uniform and a map made on a bedsheet, showing a part of North Africa, prepared by Barker, for talks in Melbourne in early 1941.
