Description

Handwritten account by 2860 Private Alfred Stanley Baker entitled 'Part of my experiences abroad', written 29 January 1918. Stanely enlisted at Annandale, New South Wales on 25 September 1916 and served with the 60th Battalion. He died of wounds in France on 9 August 1918, at the age of 22. Baker describes the voyage from Australia on the SS Afric and the sporting events he was involved with while on the troopship, including boxing. Baker's narrative also covers his impressions of Durban and being on the frontline at Bullecourt.
