Description

Collection relating to Hugh Ashby during the Second World War. Collection includes a memoir written by Ashby documenting his capture by the Japanese in Singapore after he joined the Straits Settlment Volunteer Force in 1941 and his experience of being a prisoner of war in Thailand. He was taken prisoner in 1942 and was held in a number of camps including Changi, Bampong, Kanchanaburi, Chungkai and Ubon until his release in 1945.
