Collection relating to 407666 Squadron Leader Robert Cowper, 456 Squadron and his fiancee (later wife) 422366 Corporal Katharine McCall, WAAF. It comprises correspondence between Cowper and McCall, 1942-1944 and correspondence between Robert and his family, 1941-1945. Also includes a typed memoir of Robert's life.

The collection documents Roberts training in Pearce, Western Australia, Canada and England and his operational service with 153 Night Fighter Squadron, Northern Ireland and Malta, 89 Squadron, RAF, Malta, 108 Squadron, RAF, Sicily, and 456 Night Fighter Squadron, RAAF. Robert and Katharine met in Ballyhalbert, Northern Ireland where Katharine was working for the WAAF and the collection documents their early relationship, marriage and birth of their first child, Helen in 1944.
