Scrivener, Percy Pedder (Lieutenant), MC
Collection relating to Lieutenant Percy Pedder Scrivener MC, 1 Field Artillery Brigade, First World War. Collection comprises letters written by Scrivener to his family, 1915-1919
A number of the letters written by Lieutenant Scrivener describes account of action he was involved with in France. These include his eye-witness account of the capture of enemy patrols near Strazeele. This action led to his friend Lieutenant Claude Ronald Morley, 1 Battalion, being awarded the Military Cross. Scrivener writes of this and includes a hand-drawn diagram in a letter to his family of 14 July 1918. Scrivener's letters home throughout the war maintain an optimistic and matter of fact tone describing in minimum detail the trench fighting and often covering events while on leave such as eating in fine restaurants in London and seeing theatre on the West End. Scivener was awarded an Military Cross for his service at Mort de Merris, 28 June 1918.
