Description

Collection relating to the First World War service of Sister Nea Mary Low, Australian Army Nursing Service, India, Egypt, Mesopotamia, England, 1916-1918.

Wallet 1 of 1, folder 1 contains seven pieces of official correspondence including Sister Low's application for war gratuity, her Australian Army Nursing Service appointment certificate with record of service, her termination of appointment in the AIF, a typewritten letter from Sir George Cuscaden, Director General of the Australian Army Medical Services, and a letter from the Australian Nursing Federation.

Wallet 1 of 1, folder 2 contains eight postcards and one letter to Sister Low, many of which were sent by her brother Tom Low.

Wallet 1 of 1, folder 3 contains 86 loose photographs. The photographs are mostly of landscapes, soldiers and nurses, or passenger docks at shipping ports.

Wallet 1 of 1, folder 4 contains 36 blank postcards of London and Marseille.

The collection also contains one oversized photograph album. The album contains photographs and postcards relating to Sister Low's embarkation on the RMS "Kashgar", and photographs of people and buildings from the places to which she travelled with the Australian Army Nursing Service. These images include photographs of war hospitals, nurses working and patients convalescing, monuments and ruins in India, Iraq, and Egypt, and portraits of local populations. The album also contains several group portraits.
