Description

Transcript of diaries, made in 2003, relating to Private Frederick Leopold Terrell, 27 Battalion, 1915-1918. The diaries describe Terrell's departure on SS Port Macquarie, May 1915, and arrival at Lemnos. He comments on air raids, gas shells, weather conditions and rations, as well as detailed descriptions of Bombay, Lemnos and London.

History / Summary

Terrell's original diaries are located in the Mortlock Library, State Library of South Australia. The diaries have been digitised and are available to read, print and download, from their website, and are accompanied by typed transcripts of the diaries. A closer inspection of those diaries and transcripts, and the transcripts held in PR04004, reveals that while they closely resemble one another in content, they are not exact matches.
