Description
Collection relating to the Second World War Service of NX27048 (N74634) Corporal (Cpl) Joseph Alfred Roxburgh, 2/30 Infantry Battalion, Australian Infantry Force. Consists of an original diary written by Cpl Roxburgh detailing his service in Singapore and subsequent time in a prisoner of war camp, written after he returned from the war from notes he had kept on numerous sheets of paper. Cpl Roxburgh gives detailed information about the food provided both daily and to prisoners in general, and the cost of necessary staples in Singapore after Japanese money was declared useless. Also in the collection is a typed transcription of the diary, completed by his great niece, Leonie McKenzie. See also PR84/117.
