Scolyer, Mervyn William
Collection relating to the First World War service of 929 Lance Corporal (L/Cpl) Mervyn William Scolyer, 40th Battalion, Australian Infantry Force. Consists of an original handwritten diary housed in a leather cover and belonging to L/Cpl Scolyer. Written from the time he enlisted in 1916 to when he was discharged in 1919, the diary highlight his daily activities, his experiences of military service in France, and the death of other members of the 40th battalion. Housed inside the front cover of the diary is a small pocket prayer book written in the German language. Also included is a typescript titled 'Dad's diary: A diary written by Mervyn William Scolyer on active service 1916-1919', in which has been compiled a typed transcript of the original diary, and a photocopy of L/Cpl Scolyer's service records. The typescript was completed by his son Maurice Scolyer, c 2000.
