O'Hara, Eleanor (nee Hill)
Collection relating to Eleanor Mary O'Hara (nee Hill) who worked as a Voluntary Aid Detachment (VAD), Strathfield NSW during the Second World War. In 1943 she married Dr John O'Hara, who became 267716 Flight Lieutenant John Joseph O'Hara with the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) during the Second World War. A mutual friend of theirs, RAAF pilot 403200 Flying Officer Eugene Francis (Frank) McEgan, 97 Squadron Royal Air Force (RAF) was killed when his Lancaster aircraft crashed over Bramsche, Germany on 22 November 1943. Collection comprises a VAD Hospital Service Card belonging to Eleanor Hill, an airgram letter from Frank McEgan to John and Eleanor O'Hara, a photograph of VADs who formed a guard of honour at Eleanor and John's wedding on 2 October 1943 at St Martha's Church, Strathfield, and a group photograph including Eleanor, John and Frank at a tennis day.
