Leech, Sydney Charles Edwin (Sergeant, b.1918 - d.1943)
Description
Collection relating to the Second World War service of 19458 Sergeant Sydney Charles Edwin Leech, No. 10 Squadron, Royal Australian Air Force, United Kingdom, 1943.
Collection consists of one commemorative scroll bearing the name of Sergeant Leech, original note, and envelope. Upon his death, this scroll was sent to Sergeant Leech’s wife, Melva Olive Leech.
Sergeant Leech served as a Fitter and Second Engineer. On 21 September 1943, he and his crew were on an antisubmarine patrol off the coast of the United Kingdom when they were attacked by an enemy aircraft and engaged in a flying battle. No further news was heard, and all crewmembers were presumed to have died as a result of the battle.
