McGee, Henry Xavier
Description
Original handwritten diary belonging to 10193 Sergeant (Sgt) Henry Xavier McGee who enlisted in the AIF in August 1915 and returned to Australia in April 1919. McGee served initially with Artillery units including the 5th Field Artillery Brigade and 20th Battery, then joined the Royal Flying Corps in November 1916 before being transferred to 1 Anzac Topographical Section in November 1917. The diary is a medium pocket size diary for the calendar year 1916. McGee starts his 1915 entries in the blank pages at the start, and uses a third of each page for entries from 1916, 1917, 1918 and 1919, written on the correct day and month of each year. In many entries he notes the day of the week for that particular year.
