Collection relating to the Second World War service of NX71456 Corporal John Gilbert 'Tom' Morris, Australia, 1982-83, 2000.

Wallet 1 of 7 - contains memoirs titled, "A soldier's reflections forty years on", Morris' account of his experiences while serving with the 22nd Infantry Brigade in Malaya and Singapore, in particular time spent as a POW of the Japanese in Thailand and Burma. Dated 25 March 1983.

Wallet 2 of 7 - contains photocopies of five appendices, four of which consist of selected extracts from: 22 Brigade Headquarters war diary; diary of Major Charles Green 2/4 Machine Gun Battalion; Lieutenant Colonel C W G Anderson's written report 1945; and statements by Lieutenant Colonel Tom Hamilton, Major W E Fisher, Lieutenant Colonel A E Coates, Major K J Fagan and Lieutenant Colonel E E Dunlop. Fifth appendix is a report on conditions, life and work of POW in Burma and Siam 1942-1945.

Wallet 5 of 7 - contains a paper presented at the International Colloquium held at ANU on 20 August 1991, The history of the construction of the Burma-Thailand Railway. Morris' paper "Memories of the Burma-Thailand Railway" contains his personal memories of the railway construction and the 55 Kilo Hospital in Burma and comments on the railway in the period 1944-1945. The colloquium participants included ANU academics, Japanese academics and former prisoners of the Japanese.
