Collection relating to the First World War service of 2004 Bombardier Harold Keith Buchanan, 39 Battery, Australian Field Artillery [AFA] . Collection consists of a typescript copy of five original diaries kept by Buchanan during 1916-1917. The diaries describe training in England and France, particularly around Etaples; anecdotal comments on the Somme Battles, Messines and the Hindenburg Line; and comments on the better conditions enjoyed by British troops, with disparaging remarks about officers.
