Description

Collection relating to the First World War service of Major Leslie William Matthews DSO, 22 Battalion. Collection consists of a notebook containing entries for Officer Training School at Broadmeadows VIC, lessons aboard the "Euripides" and later at Aldershot; a field message book containing lecture notes and reports on tactics; plus other papers relating to 22nd Battalion, HMAT Shropshire, Steenvoorde, circular messages, letters of appreciation and a order announcing the award of Matthews' Distinguished Service Order (DSO). Matthews was awarded the DSO in June 1918 for conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty.
