Cheney, Albert Leslie (b.1892 - d.1917)
Description
Collection relating to the First World War service of 2703 Private Albert Leslie Cheney, 33rd Battalion, Australian Infantry Force. The collection consists of a letter written by Pte Cheney and 2647 Pte Frederick Simpson MM which was inserted into a bottle and dropped overboard from SS Port Napier on the 23 of November 1916. The letter asks the reader to forward it home to the Soldiers' mother's. Also in the collection is a newspaper article written in December 1984 giving the history of the bottled letter and two condolence letters written to Mrs Cheney, one from Lt-Col Leslie Morshead and the other Lt E C Thomas.
