Collection relating to the service of Major Thomas Harold Redford, 8 Light Horse Regiment, AIF, Australia, at sea, Egypt, Gallipoli, 1914-1915. Collection consists of a photostat copy of a diary kept by Major Redford from September 1914 to August 1915 and a typescript transcription of this diary. Entries were made in the original diary after Redford's death (7 August 1915) and are believed to have been made by Major William McGrath, 8 Light Horse Regiment, AIF.

History / Summary

This diary contains numerous brief references to men who served with Major Redford in 8 Light Horse Regiment, many of whom died on 7 August 1915, during the Charge at The Nek.


Biographical notes: Major Thomas Harold Redford, 8 Australian Light Horse. Killed in action 7th August 1915. Age 34. Son of Thomas and Isabel Redford; husband of Ruth Redford, of Kaikora, 49 Middlehead Rd., Mosman, New South Wales. Native of Warrnambool, Victoria, Australia.
