Description

Collection relating to the Vietnam War service of national serviceman Corporal Colin Talbot Nicol, 6th Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment [6 RAR], Vietnam. Collection consists of ten letters written by Cpl Nicol home to his family between June 1969 and May 1970 (2nd tour of 6 RAR). The letters are detailed and describe the various operations he was involved with, particularly the discovery of tunnels and bunkers and hidden caches of weapons and supplies. Nicols also reveals his feelings to his family, descriptions of his fellow soldiers, mine clearing, ambushes, fighting with the Viet Cong, and numbers of casualties suffered. Also included is a single letter from Chaplain N R Mills, written to Nicol's family in July 1969 after one of the operations, reporting that he had found their son in good spirits.
