Description

This personal diary of Field Marshal Lord William Birdwood commences with 128 pages of advertisements and a trade and services directory. Diary entries commence from the Esplanade Hotel in Perth on 1 January 1920. The entries are very detailed and record the daily visits and activities related to the Birdwood’s visit to Australia until their departure for New Zealand on 29 May 1920. Further entries detail activities in New Zealand, with their departure for Washington recorded on 28 July. Entries for the Washington visit are detailed on 27 August 1920, and further entries record Birdwood’s voyage in October to take up a posting in India. Diary entries end on 31 December 1920.
