Description

This file contains ten items written or received by Field Marshal Lord William Birdwood between May and October 1917. Included in this file are four copies of a report on the operations by 1st ANZAC Corps between 17 March and 13 May 1917. Each of these reports contains a map showing the Hindenburg Line dated 13 May 1917. The file cover states that copies of this report, covering the capture of Bapaume and attacks on the Hindenburg Line, were sent to Sirdar [Sir Reginald Wingate], George Foster Pearce, Walter Hume Long, Admiral of the Fleet Sir John Michael de Robeck and Admiral Sir Cecil Fiennes Thursby. Also included in this file are copies of several telegrams from George Foster Pearce as Australian Defence Minister and Andrew Fisher as High Commissioner of Australia.
