Letter from General Birdwood to Mrs Pope, 1917
Description
Letter relating to the First World War service of Lieutenant Charles Pope VC, 11th Battalion. The letter was written by General Birdwood to Mrs Pope on 1 July 1917. The letter was sent following the death of Charles Pope Louverval in April 1917 and in it, General Birdwood expresses his both his pride at having awarded Pope a VC and his sorrow at his loss.
