Description
Diary relating to the First World War service of 330 Sergeant Apcar Leslie De Vine, 4th Infantry Battalion. This diary spans the period from 1 January 1915 - 6 August 1915. It covers De Vine's time in Egypt, the period before the Landing at Gallipoli, and the time spent on Gallipoli. De Vine mentions a lecture given by Major McNaughton on 22 April on the "Turkish position on Gallipoli, and where we might have to attack, showed us very fine map of the country". De Vine also mentions his movements around Gallipoli, the Armistice to bury the dead of both sides on 20 May, the shortage of food, and the issue of uniforms.
