Description

This file contains 81 black and white photographs collected by Field Marshal Lord William Birdwood. These photographs include family photographs as well as official war photographs of the Western Front and England, taken between 1917 and 1918. Featured in these photographs are the ruins and liberation events in the towns and villages of Lille, Ribemont, Bullecourt, Tournai, Hindecourt, Brussells, Bapaume, Vaulx, Grevillers, and Flers. As well as Birdwood, some of the people appearing in this set of images are the Belgian royal family, the Mayor of Lille, General John Joseph Talbot Hobbs, General Sir Newton Moore, Captain Robert Gordon Chirnside, Sir Douglas Haig, Vice-Admiral Sir Roger Keyes, Poincare (French President), and Major Henry William Murray. There are also some aerial photographs included in this file.
