Description

File of papers relating to the First World War service of Major General John Monash, 3rd Australian Division. This file, originally part of Book 16, covers 9 October 1917 to 31 October 1917 and includes documents relating to the First and Second battles at Passchendaele, fought on the 9 October and 12 October respectively. Included are messages relating to the movement of troops, battalions and whole brigades during the fighting, the casualties being sustained and the capture of German prisoners. In addition to there are several narratives of the operations carried out in November, a list of men who 'went over' for the 10th Infantry Brigade and a message of praise and support from General Godley to the Australian troops. A copy of the poem read by Chaplain George Percival Cuttriss at the burial of Major Adams is also included.
