Diary relating to the First World War service of 399 Lieutenant Ronald Alison McInnis, 53rd Battalion. Written between 10 June 1916 and 3 November 1917, in this diary McInnis details his experiences as an engineer whilst serving with 26 Battalion and later 53rd Battalion. Having been sent to the front line in France from Egypt, he describes the fighting around Armentieres and Fleurbaix in July 1916, and the fighting around Albert and Bapaume in October 1916. McInnis also details the fighting around Albert (February 1917), Bullecourt (May 1917) and Ypres and Passchendaele (September 1917). During this period McInnis is promoted to the rank of second lieutenant (September 1916) and then lieutenant (April 1917).
