Description

Letters and newspaper clippings relating to William Allen Jr. Allen was the brother of 2615 Private Ernest Allen, 2614 Private Josiah Allen and 2616a James Edward Allen, all of 49 Battalion. Included in this collection are newspaper clippings describing the town of Gin Gin in Queensland, the town in which the four brothers lived. Also included are letters from various friends of Allen who were also serving in the First World War. Several such letters are from 2198 Private Patrick Joseph Killeen of 52 Battalion from Maroondan in Queensland (near Gin Gin). Killeen was killed in action on 24 April 1918 at the Battle of Villers-Bretonneux in France.
