Description

Typescript of diaries relating to the First World War service of 2347 Staff Sergeant Henry 'Harry' Langtip, 4th Light Horse Regiment. In this series of diaries Langtip details his service with 4th Light Horse Regiment in Egypt, Palestine and Transjordan. The 1916 diary documents his embarkation from Melbourne and subsequent training and guard duty in Egypt. The 1917 diary then documents Langtip's active service in the Sinai and Palestine, including the charge at Beersheba that took place on 31 October 1917. The last diary, that of 1918, documents the pursuit of the Turkish forces into Transjordan and details the raid on Es Salt in April/May 1918. He was one of four brothers to serve with 4 Light Horse Regiment, the others being 2348 Sergeant Leslie Langtip, 2346 Sapper Bertie Langtip and 2345 Sapper Ernest Langtip.
