Description

Diary relating to the First World War service of Sister Alice Ross-King, Australian Army Nursing Service. The diary, kept between 17 January 1915 and 19 December 1915, details Ross-King's service with the Australian Army Nursing Service (1 Australian General Hospital) in Egypt in 1915. She includes descriptions of local places visited and substantial commentary on the character of the many and various people she encountered during her duties. Ross-King has also depicted in great detail her daily duties and details of the many wounded that she and her fellow nurses attended to. In particular, she commonly refers to treating the constant wounded from Gallipoli. Ross-King details her return to Australia on transport duties in late 1915 and her subsequent return to Egypt on a troopship carrying reinforcements.
