Description
Letter relating to the First World War service of 2430 Lance Corporal Wilfred Denver Gallwey, 47th Battalion. Writing from hospital in England, Gallwey compiled a single very detailed letter to his parents describing his time on the Western Front between February and June 1917. He writes of his experiences at the front, including his participation in the fighting at Bullecourt in April and Messines in June. Gallwey writes of how he was subsequently evacuated to the 3rd Australian Auxiliary Hospital at Dartford in early July due to trench fever.
