Diary of Thomas Walter White, February-April 1916
Diary [book 1B] relating to the captivity during the First Diary [book 1B] relating to the captivity during the First World War of Captain Thomas Walter White, Mesopotamian Half Flight, Australian Flying Corps. In this diary kept between, February-April 1916 White records his transfer from Baghdad to Afion Kara Hissar in Turkey, via Mosul and Aleppo. He writes of the transport he sees and in which he travels. He describes the landscape and towns such as Mosul and Aleppo through which he passes and details culture, food, clothing and architecture. He records meetings with other prisoners and writes of German, Austrian and Turkish troops he sees along the journey. At Afion Kara Hissar camp, White describes their arrival, local inhabitants, other prisoners, their nationalities and how some of them were captured and the conditions of the camp.
